Otranto
At the easternmost point of the boot of Italy, Otranto was once a fervent destination for cultural, artistic and commercial exchanges between East and West: fortified to protect itself from invasions from the sea, today it consists of a village that you can get to from Porta Alfonsina.
The artistic and architectural treasures of Otranto bear witness to the passage of numerous peoples, like the Byzantines and the Aragonese. The Aragonese Castle was an ancient military fortress built by Ferdinand I of Aragon, but today it hosts exhibitions and cultural meetings.
